McNab/Braeside

McNab/Braeside is a picturesque rural township that embodies the charm of country living while being accessible to urban centres. Established in 1998 through the amalgamation of McNab Township with the Village of Braeside, it stretches over about 255 square kilometres of land.

With a population of just under 7,600 residents (2021), McNab/Braeside offers a low-density, peaceful lifestyle – just what you’d expect from “Where Nature Awaits”, its motto. Surrounded by natural beauty, the township lies along the Ottawa River and the Madawaska River, with White Lake nearby. Wooded areas, rolling land, rivers, and lake access make it ideal for outdoor recreation.

Communities within the township include Braeside (its largest centre), Burnstown, Sand Point, Lochwinnoch, Waba, White Lake, and several others. History here is deeply tied to early Scottish settlement – McNab Township was granted in 1825 by the government to Archibald, Lord of McNab, who recruited Highland settlers.

McNab/Braeside balances tranquility with convenience: while many amenities are local, larger shopping, cultural and professional services are a relatively short drive away. There’s a strong sense of community, and in recent years there has also been a push toward supporting industry and jobs.

McNab/Braeside is a place for people who appreciate space, nature, and a laid-back pace, but still want access to what a larger region offers. It’s ideal for families, retirees, and anyone seeking a quieter life without being completely off the grid.
